Don’t you just love how kids look in when they wear traditional outfits? There is something about traditional outfits and how they make you feel extra just by wearing them. If you are looking for something unique and extra for your child’s next photoshoot, try doing something for the culture.
How to bring life to a child’s culture-themed shoot
Traditional outfits have a way of connecting us to our roots and help us identify with people like us. Here are ways you can make this shoot significant to your child;
Open up conversations about their culture
Parents they say are children’s first teachers, doing a traditional outfit themed shoot can open up conversations with your children about their culture and why it is a thing of pride to wear their traditional outfits. This gives your child basic knowledge of their culture and confidence in the outfits.
Teach them how to pronounce the name of the outfit
Kids find their native language interesting and teaching the native name of the outfit they would be wearing would be a lot of fun. Learning to pronounce “Agbada” (a loose-fitting robe worn by Yoruba men in Nigeria) when you ask a “what are you wearing?” question, sounds fun!
Share experiences
This is a good opportunity to share your story as related to the outfit or your culture with your kids. You can share your childhood stories that highlight the outfit or your culture. Wearing the outfit makes them part of something bigger.
Go the extra mile: Remembering Festac 77’
Our client’s Danshiki outfit merging his face with the official emblem of the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture, Festac 77’ is outstanding. This festival was a major festival held in Lagos, Nigeria in 1977. It was a whole month of art, music and culture showcase that featured 56 African countries and those of Africans in the diaspora.
The emblem was a replica of the royal ivory mask of Benin. For this child, this outfit cannot be forgotten in a hurry because it merges him with his roots.
